The Four Great Keys To Successful Media Outreach

by Mark Dreistadt | Jan 30, 2012 | Media

If you want to have a successful media outreach in your organization, whether it’s television, radio, or Internet, there are four great keys that you need to understand and implement in the operation of your media outreach.

  • The first key is great content. You have to have something to say. And your presentation needs to be put together in a compelling way that will capture the attention of your audience. The content has to be strong and the message has to be timely and compelling.
  • Secondly, you need to have great production.  Production standards get higher everyday. Your production needs to effectively compete for the eyes and ears of your potential audience. The quality of your production must engage the audience and motivate them to listen to everything you have to say.
  • Once you have something to say and a powerful presentation, you still have to get the message in front of the people.  You need great distribution. You must get your program in front of your potential audience. Great distribution is driven by strategic audience objectives that clearly define the nature and scope of your audience. Whether you are using television, Internet, or radio, you need to have the right distribution plan to reach the right people.
  • Lastly, you need a great response program. When people watch or listen to your show, you need to call them to action. If you call them to action and you’re not prepared to respond correctly – everything else you have done to prepare for the program is for nothing. When you put together great content with a great production, when you have great distribution, you need to have the ability to respond in a great way!

When viewers or listeners respond you must give them the positive response experience if you want to cultivate them into donors and advocates for your work. Your ultimate goal is to build lasting relationships with your viewers, and not just be a one-time encounter.  Use your response program to begin a dialogue with your viewers that will last for years to come.

This is all part of a bigger picture that includes media placement, media buying, and measuring media response. For more information on the total package Download Your Free Guide To Successful Media Outreach!
