Summer is finally upon us, and over the next few months the sun will be shining, outdoor activities will be in full swing, and you’ll be daydreaming that you’re anywhere other than your desk.
There is a good chance that summer distractions will hinder your work motivation and efficiency. However, with the proper time management, prioritization, and planning, you can make it through even the sunniest months productively!
Plan your Priorities – The best way to have a productive day is to plan it before you start. Arrange your to-do items in order of priority, and leave spaces in your day for unexpected tasks to come up—as they usually do. Checking things off your list will also leave you feeling accomplished.
Take a Break – Studies show that mental breaks increase overall workplace efficiency. Consider enjoying your lunch outside, or taking a five-minute walk. Getting up and walking around will help get the blood flowing through your body, giving you more energy and clarity of mind. After a change of scenery, you’ll return to your desk feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Eat for Fuel – Choose nutritious snacks that are high in protein and fiber to help you get through your work day. Try avoiding snacks full of sugars, which contribute to decreased attention span and productivity. Remember, when you are feeding your body you are also feeding your mind, so make sure you are consuming foods and drinks that are helping you perform better.
Working does not have to be a dread, even in the summertime. Try different methods throughout your day to find what makes you most productive!
