What Are the Top Content Marketing Ideas for Churches?

by Laura Denner | Dec 5, 2025 | Church Growth, Digital, Marketing

If you are a pastor or leader in your church, are you communicating with your congregation throughout the week, or just on Sundays? If your answer is the latter, you may be missing out on some golden opportunities to inform, serve, and inspire the very people who choose to spend several hours of their time each weekend in your church building. Social media is a powerful tool that you can utilize to interact with church members online, and chances are, many people who attend your services each week are using it every day for news consumption, connecting with family and friends, and even entertainment.

Here are a few ideas you can adopt as part of your strategy to further engage your congregation more than just one day a week:

Inform. Ever hear of the term FOMO? It means “fear of missing out,” and it’s a real thing, even among churchgoers. People like to be in the know about what is happening inside the walls of their church. Invite them to follow you on social media channels like Facebook and YouTube, and take an inventory of the types of content and information they find valuable and worth paying attention to. Even seasoned church attendees can sometimes feel disconnected from the larger vision of the church. Regularly posting about your mission and core beliefs and featuring pastoral staff profiles helps to re-engage them by reinforcing your church’s identity and creating a stronger sense of belonging.

Serve. People in your church want to be “seen,” valued, and cared for. Going the extra mile to provide a word of encouragement or prayer for specific needs can make all the difference in their day-to-day lives. Share Scripture-based reflections, worship songs, and inspirational quotes that help your congregation stay spiritually grounded between Sundays. Offer to pray for people in your church and provide them with a way to share their prayer requests privately, whether through a confidential form or a direct message to someone on your church’s prayer team. Follow up personally to let them know they’re not alone and that someone is praying for them.

Inspire. People in your church (or at least most of them) want to be more than just “pew warmers.” They want to grow deeper in their faith and live it out practically and tangibly. Create short-form video devotionals or “reels” that connect to your current sermon series—something like “Beyond the Message”—to reinforce key truths and encourage personal application throughout the week. You can also address relevant cultural topics or everyday challenges through a biblical lens, helping people see how Scripture speaks into real life. Invite your congregation to participate in a shared YouVersion Bible plan and encourage discussion in the comments or a small online group. This builds both consistency and community. Share stories and testimonies of how your church has made an impact locally or abroad, as well as ways to get plugged in to church-sponsored events. Finally, use your digital tools to highlight deeper connection—small groups, volunteer teams, community events, or ministry gatherings. When people see clear, meaningful paths to get more involved, they’re more likely to move from passive “pew-fillers” to catalysts for change.

When you intentionally use digital tools to inform, serve, and inspire your congregation, you’re not just posting content; you’re pastoring hearts throughout the week. Social media and digital outreach aren’t replacements for real connection—they’re extensions of it. Start small, stay consistent, and measure what resonates. Over time, your digital strategy will not only grow your online following but also strengthen your church community as a whole.
