5 MORE Secrets to Blogging Success

by Infinity Concepts | Sep 16, 2014 | Creative, Digital

If you are looking for tips on how to boost the success of your blog posts, you have come to the right place! This article picks up where 3 Secrets to Writing a Killer Blog Post left off. You might remember that those secrets were:

  • Reel them in with an irresistible headline
  • Promise a solution to a problem
  • Leave them wanting more

Now, I have five more secrets to blogging success that you don’t want to miss. Here they are:

1. Use six words in the headline

Research shows that six is the ideal number of words in a headline. The human eye scans as it reads, and people automatically take in the first three and last three words in a sentence. So even if your headline is longer, make the first and last words stand out.

2. Post in the morning

70 percent of blog posts are read in the morning. I suggest posting between 9 and 10 AM Eastern for two reasons: you get the East Coast crowd that’s just getting into the office and starting their morning routine, and you also get the rest of the country as they’re just getting out of bed and having their coffee.

3. Publish on Monday or Thursday

Monday is when most blogs are published, for a good reason; it is also the day when blogs attract the highest level of organic web traffic. But on Thursday, when bored cubicle monkeys are anxiously counting down the hours until the weekend, blogs see a dramatic uptick in social shares.

4. Tie it in to a recent high profile news story

For the last few weeks, everyone has been talking about the shocking success of the ALS ice bucket challenge. And hundreds of blogs were written explaining what could be learned from the phenomenon. Connecting your blog topic in some way to a story that has recently made a big splash in the news significantly increases the odds of widening your audience. By tapping into the organic momentum of the news story, you might attract attention that you would otherwise miss.

5. Include a call to action

This is very important. You want your readers to do something more than just read your blog. Ideally, you want them to buy your product or donate to your cause, but you might need to start small. Ask a question that prompts them to comment. Give them a specific reason to share the article. Direct them towards another part of your website for more information. Whatever you do, don’t let them leave your page without interacting with it.

Alright, now that’s enough reading about how to write a killer blog. You have all the secrets you need to achieve blogging success. It’s time to do it. And if this article was helpful, share it with a friend.
